House on SECOND

The alterations to this home remain respectful of the existing house designed by Douglas & Barnes yet serve as a contemporary inclusion to suit a young and growing family.

The renovation of the bathroom and laundry area sees a small existing bedroom removed to make way for more generous wet area space. Eventually, a pocket of garden between the new bathroom and a proposed new bedroom wing will provide visual separation between old and new and provide a leafy outlook when bathing. Skylights above bring gorgeous light quality into the space.

The second stage of the project will include a northern tower addition which will incorporate the new entry, garage, rumpus, library and master suite. The design carefully considers the views offered by the site. The library will see through to Burleigh, and west to mount Wollumbin while the Master ensuite will see the Border ranges and Tweed River. In the bedroom, large sliding doors can be pulled back to reveal views of the Tweed River and coastline, giving the bedroom a semi-external quality. Views of the neighbouring properties are carefully blocked out by the window and door placement which frame important views.
